Yandex Data Centers Hit by Drone Attacks, Recovery May Take 6 Months
Three Yandex data centers in Russia were damaged in drone attacks, with recovery expected to take up to six months.
The attacks, which occurred in the central Russian regions of Ryazan, Kaluga, and Vladimir, have caused significant damage to Yandex’s data center equipment. According to local consulting firm Strategy Partners, the affected data centers were large and complex, requiring significant time and resources to repair.
Yandex, often referred to as the ‘Russian Google,’ operates several data centers in Russia, with three of them being targeted in the drone attacks. The company’s digital services and cloud platform were affected, with over 80 services experiencing outages.
The attacks are seen as a response to Russia’s own attacks on Ukrainian data centers, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stating that Ukraine had retaliated against Russia’s data center attacks.
