Wits and Bidvest to Invest R6 Million in AI and Smart Technology Research

The University of the Witwatersrand and Bidvest Services will invest R6 million over three years in telecommunications, AI and smart technology research.

The funding will support the Wits Bidvest Chair in smart solutions, housed in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering within the Wits Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment.

Examples of these smart solutions include visible light communication, AI-powered underground miner tracking and smart-city connectivity.

Professor Ling Cheng, Wits Bidvest chair holder, will lead the initiative, which aims to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry.
