US Residents Reject $10,000 Payments for Data Center Construction
Residents in Pennsylvania's Haysville Township reject $10,000 payments for data center construction.
The NorthPoint Development company is planning to build a large data center complex in Haysville Township, Pennsylvania, on a 1,300-acre site. The company has offered residents $10,000 each, totaling $45 million, to accept the data center construction. However, many residents have refused the offer, citing concerns about noise pollution and decreased property values.
A recent survey by CNN found that 9 out of 10 Americans are more concerned about the potential negative impacts of data center construction and AI on their lives and society than they are about the benefits. The opposition to data center construction is not limited to one region or party, but is a widespread phenomenon.
The data center industry is facing growing opposition from local residents, with new anti-data center groups forming at a rate of over two per day on average over the past three months, according to the Data Center Opposition Report.
