Ukraine Strikes Yandex Data Centres in Escalating Russia-Ukraine War
Ukraine hits two Yandex data centres, including one housing supercomputers used to train AI, in widening attacks on Russia.
Yandex, a Russian technology company, has been hit by Ukrainian attacks on its data centres, including one in the Kaluga region that houses supercomputers used to develop its AI model. The attack has partly disabled the data centre and is being assessed for damage. Yandex said it is trying to keep its services running despite the disruptions. The company’s data centres are critical for its operations, with millions of users relying on its services for everyday tasks. The attack is part of a wider escalation of the war, with both sides targeting each other’s infrastructure, including energy facilities, refineries, and e-commerce warehouses. Yandex operates five data centres, two of which have now been hit. The company is working to restore disrupted services, but the full extent of the disruption is not yet clear.
