Tokyo Institute of Technology and other universities and companies launch a joint cybersecurity research community.
The Tokyo Institute of Technology, along with other universities and companies, has launched a joint cybersecurity research community called MWS Cup Team Human Wave Tactics. The community aims to foster practical skills and deep knowledge in cybersecurity professionals through competitions and collaborative research. The community will participate in the MWS Cup 2026, a cybersecurity competition to be held in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, in October 2026. The community will also provide a platform for students and professionals to interact and share knowledge, and to develop next-generation cybersecurity researchers and technicians. The Tokyo Institute of Technology’s CySec program will provide comprehensive support for the community’s activities in the long term. The community’s predecessor, Team Human Wave Tactics, has been active since 2009 and has been involved in the MWS Cup competition for 17 years. The community will be operated by a partnership of five universities and companies, including the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Hitachi, Ltd., and Hitachi Systems, Ltd. The community’s main activities will include participating in the MWS Cup competition, sharing knowledge and experiences between academia and industry, and developing a network of cybersecurity researchers and technicians. The community will also provide opportunities for young researchers and technicians to participate in the MWS Cup competition and develop their skills and careers. The community’s goal is to contribute to the development of cybersecurity professionals who can address global security challenges and provide a safe and secure society.
