South Africa Sees 75% Rise in AI Course Enrolments
Artificial intelligence course enrolments in South Africa increased 75% year-on-year, reveals Coursera’s Global Skills Report 2026.
The report highlights trending AI learning themes in South Africa, including generative AI, data and analytics, and agentic AI and AI agents. Enrolments in AI security increased 236%, agentic workflows grew 195%, and generative AI rose 161%.
Learners in South Africa are also developing human skills needed to evaluate AI outputs and communicate their implications, the report notes. This includes critical thinking, complex problem-solving, and innovation.
Coursera’s report also examines which AI and human skills learners develop together more distinctively than the global average in South Africa. Learners pair AI and machine learning foundations with critical thinking and judgement, and data and analytics with communication and presentation.
