Singapore University and Cortical Labs Launch First Biological Data Center with Millions of Live Human Brain Cells
The center uses CL1 bio-computer units, each containing 200,000 to 800,000 live human neurons.
The Singapore National University, in collaboration with Australian technology company Cortical Labs, has launched the world’s first Biological Data Center, using millions of live human brain cells. The center, which will have 20 CL1 bio-computer units by August 2026, combines traditional silicon chips with ‘wetware’ technology, using live brain cells to process data.
Each CL1 unit contains 200,000 to 800,000 live human neurons, which are kept alive with special life support solutions and connected to traditional computers through tubes that allow them to send electrical signals.
The system is expected to revolutionize the field of neurology and drug discovery, with the ability to process lab data in real-time and provide instant results.
