Record High Cybersecurity Flaw Discoveries in 2025 and 2026

Publicly disclosed cybersecurity vulnerabilities reached a record high in 2025 and continued rising in the first half of 2026.

The number of publicly disclosed cybersecurity vulnerabilities hit a record high in 2025 and continued rising rapidly in the first half of 2026, as artificial intelligence helps identify flaws more quickly, data compiled by a U.S. nonprofit organization showed.

Mitre said more than 48,000 cases were logged in 2025, up 2.4-fold from 2021, while over 35,000 have been registered as of June 2026.

The findings come as a string of Japanese companies have reported unauthorized access and subsequent information leaks in recent weeks, including the Times Car car-sharing service, prompting the government to urge businesses to tighten security measures.
