Quad9 to stop DNS service in France due to court order to block pirate sites

Quad9 will cease to function in France on November 24, 2026, due to a court order to block pirate sports streaming sites.

Quad9, a Swiss non-profit foundation, has announced its departure from the French market due to a court order to block pirate sports streaming sites. The foundation’s DNS service will no longer be accessible to French users from November 24, 2026. The decision comes after a court in Paris ordered Quad9 to block 58 domain names associated with illegal sports streaming. Quad9 refused to implement the block, citing its mission to provide a secure DNS service that does not block general illicit content.
