Pirelli Accelerates Tire Development with AI

Pirelli’s innovative methods of development and production are at the core of its business strategy. The company has implemented machine learning to restructure production processes at all its facilities worldwide, resulting in a near elimination of factory defects. With an annual production volume of 60-70 million tires, Pirelli has achieved a zero-defect rate, confirmed by the company. Automated quality control systems eliminate the human factor in the technological chain by using dynamic mechanisms for testing, retesting, and error correction. In addition to production, warehouse logistics have also changed: the First Out system has reorganized storage and shipping processes for finished products.

The result of this restructuring is tangible numbers. Pirelli’s collaboration with AI has led to the development of the Cyber Tyre technology. Sensors inside the tire’s tread collect information about the road and transmit it to the vehicle’s electronic control unit.
