Only 9 Percent of Executives View Cybersecurity as Economic Stabiliser

A World Economic Forum report finds executives recognise cyber risk's economic reach but still fund defences after the damage is done.

A survey found that 42 percent of respondents recognised cybersecurity’s measurable effects on economic output and markets, but only 9 percent said their organisations viewed it as an economic stabiliser.

The report argues that the gap is partly due to a language gap between technical teams and executives, who often talk past each other.

The report suggests that organisations should rethink their budget line and treat security spending as ‘productive capital, not only as protection against loss’.
