North Dakota Emerges as AI Data Center Hotspot

Low power costs and grid capacity drive growth in North Dakota's AI and high-performance computing market.

North Dakota’s data center development pipeline is set to more than double its current operating footprint, with 17 facilities in development and 15 operational data centers.

The state’s median locational marginal price (LMP) is approximately $35 per MWh, significantly below the national median of ~$49/MWh.

Major hyperscale projects, including Applied Digital’s 400 MW Polaris Forge 1 campus, are taking advantage of the state’s grid headroom.
