No Environmental Assessment Required for Nova Scotia Data Center

The Nova Scotia government claims no environmental assessment is needed for the AI-focused data center project.

The project, announced last week, is a multi-billion dollar data center focused on artificial intelligence, to be leased by Anthropic in Cape Breton by October 2026.

The Nova Scotia Environment Minister, Tim Halman, stated that the project will not require an environmental impact assessment, relying on existing regulatory frameworks.

EverWind, the company behind the project, has submitted a request for an industrial permit related to the use of diesel generators, which the data center will require.
