Microsoft Unveils Maia 300 AI Chip to Reduce Nvidia Dependence
Microsoft's third-generation custom AI chip targets 40% greater AI throughput per megawatt.
The Maia 300 is designed to become the primary AI inference system for Microsoft’s products and services, supporting workloads across its Copilot assistants, software development tools, and Azure cloud platform.
The chip uses a chiplet design, combining specialized components into a single processor system, and is manufactured using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s 2-nanometre technology.
Microsoft plans to begin multi-gigawatt deployments next year, with the company expecting to deploy more than one million of the chips.
