Microsoft offers voluntary exit deals to 60,000 staff

Microsoft is offering voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 employees, roughly a quarter of its workforce, as the tech giant seeks to cut costs.

The company is pouring money into artificial intelligence while cutting costs, with around 27 percent of its workforce eligible for the new buyout offer.

Staff on select teams in the United States, Canada, India, and Britain at vice president level and below will be eligible, while some groups are excluded.

This is the second voluntary buyout offer that Microsoft has offered employees this year, following a similar offer in April that saw 30 percent of eligible employees take the voluntary retirement plan.
