Lack of Coordination Hurts Cyber Security

Six out of 10 security practitioners say organisational complexity hinders their ability to improve defences.

Organisational complexity is hindering the ability of security practitioners to improve defences, according to a report from Cisco. The report found that 60% of respondents said organisations need better coordination, faster decision-making, and easier access to information. This is despite 40% of respondents saying they need technology to enhance their resilience posture.

The report, which surveyed 8,000 organisational leaders across 30 markets, found that 95% of organisations reported a cyber security incident in the past 12 months. Of these incidents, 40% were driven by AI-enhanced mechanisms.

The report’s findings suggest that organisational complexity is a major obstacle to effective cyber security. Only 41% of organisations globally and in South Africa say security, networking, and IT teams operate as one team with shared visibility and tooling.
