India's Data Center Capacity to Triple by 2030, Creating New Job Opportunities
The growth of data centers in India is creating a demand for professionals beyond software and IT roles.
Industry reports put India’s data center capacity at 1.6 to 1.8 GW in mid-2026 and expect at least 6 GW by 2030. The growth creates demand for electrical, cooling, control, construction, safety, and energy professionals, not only software staff. Each facility needs steady power, cold air, strong security, and skilled hands on-site.
Many of the jobs call for electrical, mechanical, or civil training, and existing trades transfer well. A power engineer, HVAC technician, or project manager does not need to start over, but rather learn how their skills apply to a site that runs around the clock.
The career ladder covers every level of qualification, from ITI and diploma technicians to engineers, project managers, energy specialists, and senior infrastructure leaders. Training and technical institutes could add data center modules to existing courses, and employers could offer apprenticeships linked to live sites.
