Hong Kong Police Investigate 130 iPhone Duo Pre-Order Scams
Police received 130 reports of unauthorized credit card transactions linked to iPhone Duo pre-orders, totaling HK$5 million.
The cases were provisionally classified as obtaining property by deception and were being investigated by the cybersecurity and technology crime bureau.
The scams occurred after online pre-orders for the iPhone Duo opened at 8pm on Friday.
The 3D Secure system, which is supposed to prevent such scams, was not activated by Apple.
