Greek Industry Association Warns of Data Center Energy Burden

Greek industry association EVIKEN warns that data centers' energy demand may strain the country's power grid and drive up electricity prices.

The Greek Industry Association of Energy Consumers (EVIKEN) has expressed concerns about the impact of data centers on the country’s energy system, warning that their growing energy demand may strain the power grid and drive up electricity prices.

According to EVIKEN, the current regulatory framework does not adequately address the issue, as it only requires data centers to cover 60% of their annual energy consumption with renewable energy sources.

The association is calling for a more robust approach to ensure that data centers’ energy needs are met through new renewable energy production capacity, additional storage projects, and a clear temporal correlation between production and consumption.
