French PM's Phone Number Leaked in Data Breach

More than 1 in 2 French people have been informed of a data breach in the past 12 months.

The leak of personal data, including passwords, IBAN, and identity documents, is becoming increasingly common. France’s Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, was also affected by a data breach at the French brand Le Slip Français in 2024. Several major companies, including France Travail and the tax office, have been targeted by security incidents.

If your email address or phone number has been compromised, the main risk is receiving more phishing messages. The CNIL recommends being vigilant when receiving unexpected messages, especially those containing links or asking for confidential information.

If your password has been compromised, change it immediately on the affected account and on any other accounts that use the same password. Enabling two-factor authentication can also help prevent unauthorized access.
