Forum Discusses AI's Theological and Ethical Challenges
Participants at the 5th Mediterranean Inter-Religious Forum in Rijeka, Croatia, debated the implications of AI on human dignity and responsibility.
The forum, organized by the Center for Inter-Religious Dialogue in Rijeka, brought together scientists, religious leaders, practitioners, and civil society representatives to discuss the intersection of religion and AI.
The first panel focused on the relationship between religion and AI, with participants exploring the theological, ethical, and anthropological consequences of AI development, including concerns about human dignity, responsibility, and algorithmic decision-making.
The participants concluded that AI should be viewed as a tool that can have a beneficial role, but also raises serious ethical and social issues, particularly the risk of spreading theological inaccuracies and the need for clearer guidelines for religious communities.
