Dell stock plunges 11%, leading data center sell-off on AI concerns
Dell shares fell 11.6% after a Barclays downgrade and hot CPI data, dragging CoreWeave, Nebius and Oracle in an AI infrastructure sell-off.
The drop came amid concerns that enterprise spending on AI may not be enough to keep data center equipment sales climbing. Dell wasn’t alone. It led a broader sell-off across the companies building and financing AI’s physical backbone.
The immediate trigger was a downgrade from Barclays. The bank moved Dell from Overweight to Equal Weight and cut its price target from $603 to $574. Barclays analyst Tim Long flagged two problems: valuation and growth.
The sell-off sits awkwardly next to Dell’s actual business results. Its most recent quarterly report showed a record $95 billion AI server backlog, and infrastructure solutions revenue jumped 89% year over year in that quarter.
