Connected Cars Vulnerable to Hacking
Study finds significant increase in security risks in connected car software.
A study by researchers from the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers Technical University analyzed 413 reported security vulnerabilities in vehicle-related software between 2022 and 2024.
The study found that the number of risks in apps, websites, and cloud services has tripled compared to a decade ago, when most vulnerabilities were in the vehicle’s own systems.
Researchers warn that connected cars’ infotainment systems are vulnerable to hacking, and that anyone connected to the vehicle’s Wi-Fi network can access the vehicle’s other systems.
