China Proposes Export Restrictions on 40 Strategic Technologies

China plans to restrict or ban the export of 40 strategic technologies, including AI, to protect national security.

The Chinese government has proposed a new list of 40 strategic technologies that would be subject to export restrictions or bans. The list includes 23 AI-related technologies, such as advanced AI models, autonomous AI agents, and computer systems. The restrictions would apply to the transfer of certain AI models, source code, and technical data to foreign parties.

The proposed regulations would also apply to the export of solar energy and biotechnology products, including polysilicon production processes and advanced solar cell technologies.

The move is seen as part of a broader international trend, where countries are increasingly restricting the export of strategic technologies to protect national economic and security interests.
