Brazilian Companies Struggle to Scale AI Adoption Amid Tax Reform
More than 90% of Brazilian companies testing AI still don't incorporate it into their business models.
Brazilian companies are struggling to scale AI adoption, with over 90% of those testing the technology still not incorporating it into their business models, according to data from the MIT and TOTVS. This is despite AI already being part of the routine of many Brazilian companies, used for both simple and complex tasks. The main challenge is moving from sporadic use to full integration into business operations.
Experts point to a common mistake in adopting AI without a clear justification, which inverts the logic that should guide its implementation. Marcelo Cosentino, VP of business at TOTVS, advises identifying the problem to be solved before evaluating which technology can help, and ensuring that technology is part of the business, not the other way around.
The tax reform in Brazil, which will gradually replace the current system with two new tributes from 2027, is also posing a challenge for the technology sector, with companies needing to prepare for the changes and implement adjustments in their systems to ensure a smooth transition.
