Brazil's Electoral Court Prohibits AI Use in Election Campaigns
The use of artificial intelligence in Brazil's 2026 election campaigns is subject to strict rules and regulations.
The Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) has adopted a strict rule prohibiting the use of artificial intelligence in the 72 hours leading up to the election and 24 hours after its conclusion. This rule aims to prevent the misuse of AI in election campaigns.
Candidates are required to disclose the use of AI in their propaganda materials, including audio and visual content. However, this rule does not apply to marketing resources used to improve image and sound quality.
A recent study by the Agência Lupa found that 920 AI-generated content posts were identified between August 16 and September 28, with 554 of them being deepfakes.
