Belgian researcher discovers vulnerability in Broadcom Wi-Fi chip, affecting Orange and SFR boxes

A 16-year-old vulnerability in Broadcom's Wi-Fi chip allows hackers to access and control routers without a password.

The vulnerability, discovered by Belgian researcher Quentin Kaiser, affects certain Orange and SFR boxes in France, including the Livebox 5 and SFR’s ‘Box Plus’.

The issue lies in the management of data exchanged during the passwordless connection process, allowing hackers to take control of the router without a password or network connection.

Kaiser demonstrated the vulnerability by accessing and controlling a Belgian box, and notes that the issue is not new, dating back to 2010 and still exploitable on devices still in service.
