Barclays to Cut 5,000 Jobs Amid Digitalization and AI Adoption
The bank plans to reduce its workforce by 5% as it modernizes its operations and increases the use of artificial intelligence.
The decision is part of Barclays’ strategy to save more than £1.1 billion by 2027. The bank has already cut around 1,000 jobs since the start of the year. The majority of the job cuts will affect support services, including software developers, as AI is expected to increase productivity.
The bank’s financial director, Anna Cross, explained that technological advancements and process simplification are driving the majority of the cost savings, with AI being a key component of these changes.
