Alliant Energy Secures $51 Billion Loan Guarantee to Meet Data Center Demand
US data center power demand continues to surge, driving utilities to accelerate infrastructure expansion.
The loan guarantee from the US Department of Energy will support Alliant Energy’s development of 1.8 GW of natural gas generation capacity, 1 GW of battery energy storage systems, and transmission infrastructure.
The project is expected to save customers up to $1.2 billion over its lifespan through lower financing costs.
The US data center power demand is estimated to reach 70-80 GW, with data centers accounting for around 12% of the country’s total power demand, a new record.
