Albert Heijn's Tomatoes Run Out After Cyberattack

Cybersecurity incident forces Dutch supermarket chain to shut down IT systems, leaving shelves empty.

A cyberattack on Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn has left its shelves empty, with customers unable to find fresh produce. The attack, which occurred on Sunday, forced the company to shut down its IT systems, affecting its distribution centers and online services. The company’s website and app are currently unavailable, and its home delivery service has been suspended.

The incident has raised concerns about food security, with some customers expressing shock and dismay at the situation. ‘This is dystopian,’ said one customer, who was unable to find tomatoes. ‘We don’t know what’s going on,’ said another.

The company’s IT systems are being investigated, and there are currently no indications of data theft. Ahold Delhaize, the parent company of Albert Heijn, has stated that it is working to resolve the issue and restore its services as soon as possible.
