AI System Identifies 18 Genetic Variants Linked to Stroke Risk
A new AI model combines genetic data with lifestyle and medical information to predict stroke risk.
The AI system, developed by researchers at the University of Technology in Sydney, analyzes DNA to identify genetic risk factors for stroke, allowing for personalized risk assessments.
The model was tested using data from the UK Biobank and compared to a large database of US patients, showing improved accuracy in distinguishing between those who had suffered a stroke and those who had not.
The analysis identified 18 genetic variants associated with ischemic stroke, with individuals having a higher genetic risk score having a 22% higher likelihood of suffering a stroke compared to a control group.
