180 Million Connected Devices in French Homes Pose Cybersecurity Risks
Experts warn that connected devices, such as refrigerators and TVs, can be vulnerable to cyberattacks.
According to a 2022 survey by the French regulatory body ARCEP, there are approximately 244 million connected devices in French homes. These devices can include refrigerators, TVs, speakers, and lamps. However, they can also pose significant cybersecurity risks. For example, a refrigerator in a supermarket can be a target for cyberattacks.
Clément Domingo, a cybersecurity expert, recommends that users change the default password of their connected devices, regularly update their software, and protect their Wi-Fi network with a password. He also advises being vigilant when purchasing connected devices, as some manufacturers may neglect cybersecurity.
Domingo also suggests using a Faraday cage to store car keys, not clicking on unknown links, and covering webcams with tape to prevent unauthorized access.
